What should I bring to class?

You will need to take notes, whether by hand or on a laptop, tablet, etc. You may want to bring snacks and lunch, if you don't wish to go out during the lunch hour. There is limited availability of food in the cafeteria on campus, as well as vending machines with snacks, drinks, and coffee. See the other FAQ regarding local food availability.

You will also need to bring comfortable clothes, such as shorts, yoga pants, tank tops, sports bras, etc for ease of access to injection sites as we will be working on each other as well as volunteer patients

When will I receive my certificate of completion?

You will receive your certificate of completion for the Introduction to Acupoint Injection Therapy Seminar via e-mail from NCCAOM after we have received all your completed paperwork and final course evaluation

Will food be provided or available?

Yes, although limited food will be available on the Bastyr campus. On Friday the chef is in and the cafeteria serves limited meals for purchase. However, the cafeteria also has refrigerated vending machines with snacks, drinks, sandwiches and yogurt. They also have fresh organic drip coffee available in the cafeteria. There are microwaves and toaster ovens available to heat food if you wish to bring lunch. Additionally, a student lounge is down the hall from the classroom we will occupy for the Introduction to Acupoint Injection Therapy seminar, which has a refrigerator, plates and utensils, microwaves, and vending machines as well as hot and cold filtered drinking water.

There are many local restaurants and markets should you decide to get your meals off-campus. We suggest at least bringing snacks and/or packing lunch, or going online to see what food options are available near campus, as we will not be responsible providing meals

How many continuing education credits does this course count for?

For licensed acupuncturists, who are Diplomates through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), your certificate counts for 24 PDA points in the PE-CW category through the NCCAOM. One PDA point is equivalent to one hour of active learning and/or instruction. PDA providers will send Diplomates a certificate of completion of the course, and they may submit the official NCCAOM PDA Certificate to the NCCAOM for recertification and to their state acupuncture board for re-licensing requirements.

For licensed acupuncturists that are NOT Diplomates with the NCCAOM, you will receive a certificate of completion of our course through the NCCAOM, however you will need to submit the certificate to your state acupuncture board for re-licensing continuing education requirements.

For non-acupuncturists with Point Injection in your scope of practice, you may take our course and receive a certificate of completion through the NCCAOM, but you will need to check with your state licensing board for their continuing education equivalency requirements. You may need to submit an application for continuing education equivalency to your state board. We recommend you contact your state licensing board to find out their requirements prior to attending any of our seminars.

Who is this course designed for?

The Intro to Acupoint Injection Therapy (APIT) Seminar is designed for licensed medical professionals with point injection therapy (PIT) in their scope of practice. If you are not a licensed acupuncturist, you can still take this course as long as PIT is in your scope and you’re interested in learning about injection therapy into acupuncture points from a Chinese medicine point of view. Who can practice acupoint injection therapy?

Licensed medical professionals with Point Injection Therapy (PIT) in their scope of practice can practice Acupoint Injection Therapy (APIT) once they have received the proper training according to their state licensing board's requirements. See our other FAQ "How many continuing education credits does this course count for?" for more information on continuing education credit equivalency.

The Introduction to Acupoint Injection Therapy course is designed to fulfill the requirements for WA, NV, CO, UT, MT and MD to practice APIT as a licensed acupuncturist. Please check with your state licensing board for more information on practicing APIT in your state.

Note: Maryland state is in the process of adding PIT to the scope of practice for licensed acupuncturists, and our course meets the training requirements outlined in their proposal.
